We kick off the series of ‘Meet the Bloggers’ with Emma from Our Fairytale Adventure to find out more about the writer behind the blog (she loves bagels, pancakes and fears she may become a ‘groupie’…) – why she started blogging and what advice she can share with us!
I’m Emma, I write the parenting and lifestyle blog ‘Our Fairytale Adventure’, which is about life with my partner Mr. C and our two boys Bear and Monkey. I write a lot about our sensory play, crafty activities and days out, but we have a lot of travelling adventures coming up over the next year so travel will be becoming quite a big part of my blog as well.
Q. Best parenting advice you’ve ever received (is there such a thing?!)
Erm… it isn’t really advice but when I was a new mum and doubting myself, my Nan said “the fact you are even doubting whether you are a good mum means you already are one.”
I’ve always kept that in mind on the days where I feel like I’m falling short as a mother.
Q. What advice would you give to new parents?
You know your baby best, if you feel like something isn’t quite right then follow that instinct!
Q. What are your parenting bugbears?
It really annoys me when my friends without children comment on parenting… I have a few friends that always say “When I have children I wont do this and will do that…” and I sit and nod along politely while thinking ‘you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about.’
Q. Why did you started blogging?
I’ve always loved writing and would always be scribbling away in my notepad growing up. I then went to university and studied journalism, so when I became a stay at home mum and found myself feeling a bit lost, I naturally went to writing. I guess you could say it was natural progression.
Q. How long have you been blogging?
I launched ‘Our Fairytale Adventure’ in September 2015 and haven’t looked back since. I’m very creative, so love having a hobby that allows me to be creative in both writing and photography.
Q. What advice would you give to people thinking of starting a blog?
It’s very much a learn as your go process, so just jump in and get started. I would also suggest networking, even if you are only doing it for fun. It’s nice to have a few friends who have the same hobby as you and it makes attending events much more fun.
Q. What are your favourite blogs (parenting or otherwise…)
I find ‘Hurrah For Gin’ really funny and her social media is always entertaining. I recently stumbled across ‘Travel Mad Mum’, which is what inspired us to start our own travel adventure with our little ones. I also like ‘Where Olivia Went’ because I just love her fashion sense.
Q. Do you have any tips for a successful blog?
I’m not really sure how to answer that one to be honest. I think if you want to turn your blog into a money making machine then you have to be really dedicated to it, but as for actual tips… I’m the wrong person to ask.
Q. Are there any interesting facts that you can share with us….
I love Bagels and Pancakes
I’m a huge fan of Game of Thrones. When a new episode comes out I make it look like we are out so nobody will interrupt while it’s on.
The new iphone feature that categorises people based on face recognition keeps thinking me and my eldest are the same person, so we have a ‘shared folder’.
Spring is my favourite season.
Bluebells are my favourite flower
I can never decide what my favourite colour is, it changes depending on my mood.
I’m so obsessed with Ed Sheeran’s new album I’m starting to get a bit concerned I may turn into a groupie!
