Hello and welcome back! After a fair few months ‘off’ my guest series, I’m back with a bang ready to share lots of super lovely bloggers with you all.
My first ‘interviewee’ of 2019 is the money saving mummy, Claire from Daily Deals UK. Claire is what I like to refer to as a super mum as she is a mum of five – yes, FIVE! Here she talks about money saving deals, running two businesses and empty threats….
Q. Why did you start blogging?
I started out writing articles over on hub pages, mainly for SEO purposes for my web design company and really enjoyed it. I have always had a passion for money saving and finding deals online, mainly due to the fact of having such a large family and finally used the skills I had acquired over the years to create my own blog.
Q. Were you inspired by anyone to start blogging – if so, who?
Absolutely – Martin Lewis. I spent hours on the MSE forums when I first dipped my toes in to the WWW. It was one of the first places I would check before buying anything.
Q. How long have you been blogging?
15 Months ago I created Daily Deals UK, but I have been writing content and articles for over 10 years.
Q. Best parenting advice you’ve ever received (is there such a thing?!)
Oh wow – You’d think i’d have a plethora of advice being a mum of 5. My eldest is 22 and my youngest are 2 year old twins and I am definitely still learning! I would probably say, for me personally
is to stick to what you say. No good ever comes from empty threats!
Q. What are your parenting bugbears?
Parents who don’t watch their children in playcentres and parks, knowing full well they are likely to be hitting other children – then when you mention to them their child has been going round hitting
the crap out of other kids they say “oh sorry he has ADHD” . Yeah well watch him then, instead of chatting over coffee.
Q. What advice would you give to new parents?
Take peoples advice with a pinch of salt. Every child is different, and what works for one, may not work for another. You will find your way soon enough.
Q. What advice would you give to parents thinking of starting a blog?
Go for it! I wouldn’t recommend giving up your main job and diving straight in, as it takes a lot of time and effort before you start earning. Start off as a hobby and develop it at your own pace.
Q. What are your favourite blogs (parenting or otherwise…)
Neil Patel – This guy is a SEO genius and has taught me so much over the years to help me master local SEO for my company.
Martin Lewis’ Blog – Again my go to place for money saving advice.
Q. What are your tips for a successful blog?
Well I’m still working on that one, but you definitely need to put the time and effort in. Do lots of research, read other bloggers tips, make friends in your niche and keep at it!
Three things we don’t know about you…
1) I run two full time businesses from home – A web design & SEO company as well as Daily Deals UK
2) I had my first child aged 14, left school and completely self taught myself web design and SEO
3) I am covered in tattoos – I have around 20 plus a full chest and back piece.
