Our six week Summer Adventure 2022.

After a life changing event in our family, and some changes at work, we decided to go on a full reset and head away for the six week summer holidays.

How could we do this? Well, I quit my job and Stuart runs his own business, so we were pretty lucky that we didn’t have to apply for leave or use up all of our holiday days on one long vacation! We also decided to rent our house out on Airbnb for the time we were away – strangers were contributing to our holiday fund. Win, win.

As we were going for the full six weeks, and we struggle to stay under the weight limit on a week long TUI holiday, we decided that we would take our car and drive to explore Europe. And of course, we couldn’t leave Bert behind for that long!

We live fairly close to the ferry terminal, so we decided to get the Brittany ferry from Portsmouth to Caen. Our final destination was Southern Spain where we had booked a lovely penthouse apartment for four weeks as a base; this meant we had six days to tour through France on the way down and a further six days on our return.

To be totally honest, we winged the downward route. Being pretty shit at geography, I tried to plan a journey but every time I mapped places out along the route – I was told by various people that probably wasn’t the best way to travel. So, we just decided to get on the ferry and book hotels on the go at wherever we liked the look of.

It worked out well for us as some days we would drive a short distance and stop if we passed a nice town and other times we’d get a long stretch in when everyone (except the driver, obvs) was snoozing.
