Four ways to safeguard your home safety and security

Your home is your sanctuary. It’s where you should feel safe and secure. But what happens when your home is no longer a safe haven? What can you do to protect yourself and your family? In the UK, there are over 250,00 home burglaries each year, so making sure you don’t become another statistic is paramount to help you to keep your family safe.

Secure Entry and Exits

This means you need to secure all of your endows and doors. Upgrade your locks to provide the best security. At a minimum, looking for a 5-lever mortice or multi-point lock can offer the greatest protection. Electronic or smart locks can allow you to program the lock to only allow access to specific individuals without using a key. Make sure you make the required repairs to all windows and doors in the home. Pay particular attention to window locks and your bifold doors repair, as these can often be overlooked in favour of them in the home’s front door.

Install a security system

There are many different types of home security systems on the market. A security system can offer you peace of mind both in and outside the home. You can monitor self-installation smart home systems from an app on your phone or a monitored home security system where the nominated security company will raise the alarm in the event of a home break-in when you are away from home.

Many security systems require a strong internet connection and if you’re based that way then North Carolina internet providers are one to consider for all things ‘online’.

Use timers for your lights

If you want to make it more difficult for burglars to enter your home, use timers for your lights. This will make it appear like someone is home even when you’re not there. If your house sits in darkness while you’re out, it’s an invitation for thieves to break in. It might seem small, but a few lights can make a big difference in your home security. If you’re still concerned about safety, you can always install a few motion lights outdoors. These lights turn on when someone comes near them, making it more difficult for someone to break in without being seen.

Keep your valuables out of sight.

If you want to keep thieves from targeting you, keep your valuables out of sight. Burglars often look for easy targets. If your valuables are out in the open, you’re making it easier for a burglar to break in and steal from you. You don’t have to keep all of your valuables hidden away in a safe. But you should avoid keeping them where people can see them by looking through windows and doors. These days there are a lot of items thieves consider valuable, so avoid leaving items such as jewellery, gaming systems, expensive electronics etc., in view of the window.
