wedding planning tips

No filler, all killer wedding planning advice!

The internet is filled with perfect wedding planning tips. But, what’s perfect to someone may be a nightmare for someone else. We don’t all have the same taste! There are however, some things that are less to do with taste and more to do with tackling the issues that every couple planning a wedding will face. So in between looking for live wedding entertainment ideas and looking for the perfect dress* give yourself a break and read on…

Stand Up
For yourself and your partner if you have to – this is a big one! So many times people give in to the strangest of requests from guests and invite people they don’t even want there – because they don’t want to offend anyone. Weddings are a celebration of love. How can you thoroughly enjoy that, and share it with the people you love – if you have people there you barely even know?
While the stress and pressure starts mounting, it’s often the case that the bride to be will start taking that stress out on her bridesmaids – and other people trying to help. Consider how you would feel if someone treated you this way? Your friends understand completely the stress that comes with wedding planning and the big day too. So just talk to them about how you are feeling, rather than using them as verbal punching bags. You don’t want to end up being a bridesmaid short on your walk down the aisle.
It’s one thing to say thank you for people for attending on the day, it is another to sit down and write a lot of thank you notes. Writing a thank you card shows that you have thought about the people who celebrated the day with you, and the gift that they gave was well received. And, who doesn’t love receiving a good old fashioned snail mail nowadays? Have your notebook handy when you open everything so you can jot down what each person kindly gifted to you and personalise your ‘thank you’.
Although more commonly related to business, there is a reason it is so prevalent. If you know that you probably don’t have the critical eye that 30 or 400 tiny glass jars of sugared almonds takes. Pay someone else to do it. We hired a wedding event planner for our big day, which took the stress out of EVERYTHING ensuring it all ran smoothly from start to finish. I would highly recommend it – even if it’s just for the clear down at the end of the night!
*there isn’t one. What there is, is a beautiful dress that makes you feel like you’re walking on air – or you feel better than your average Wednesday.
